The surprise proposal is one of life's great moments — but it comes with one practical challenge: how do you find her ring size without her knowing?

1. Borrow a Ring She Already Wears
This is the most reliable method. Wait until she takes off a ring she wears on her right hand, then bring it to our Blantyre atelier. We can measure the inside diameter precisely and match it to a UK ring size. Just make sure it is a ring she wears on a finger similar in size to her ring finger — the dominant hand is typically half a size larger.
2. Trace the Inside of a Ring
If you cannot bring the ring to us, place it on a piece of paper and trace the inside circle with a fine pen. Bring the tracing to our showroom and we can estimate the size from the diameter. It is not as precise as measuring the ring itself, but it gets us very close.
3. Press a Ring into Soap or Wax
Press one of her rings into a bar of soap or a piece of modelling wax. The impression gives us the inside diameter, which we can measure and convert to a UK size. It is a discreet trick that works surprisingly well.
4. Ask a Trusted Friend or Family Member
If she has a close friend, sister, or mother who can be trusted with a secret, ask them to help. They might already know her size, or they could casually suggest trying on rings together while shopping. This works best when the helper is naturally interested in jewellery.
