How Bespoke Jewellery Is Made: The Meaningful Process Behind Your Custom Piece
Commissioning a bespoke piece is a journey — from first conversation to final polish. Here is exactly what happens when you work with a master jeweller to create something entirely your own.
What Does Bespoke Mean?
Bespoke means designed for you, made for you, and existing nowhere else. It is not a customised version of an existing ring — it is a piece created from scratch to your specification, by a master jeweller, in a workshop.
The Bespoke Process at Jewellove
Step 1: The Consultation
Everything begins with a conversation. You visit our Blantyre atelier (or join a virtual consultation) and we discuss the occasion, the recipient, the style, the budget and the timeline. There is no form to fill in — just a genuine conversation with a master jeweller who has done this hundreds of times.
Step 2: Design Exploration
Based on our conversation, we explore design directions. We may show you existing pieces for inspiration, sketch initial ideas, and discuss diamond or gemstone options. If you are choosing a diamond, we help you search our certified inventory by carat, colour, clarity and cut.
Step 3: CAD Rendering
Once we have a design direction, we produce a detailed CAD (computer-aided design) rendering of your piece. This is a 3D model that shows exactly how the finished ring will look — the proportions, the setting, the profile, the details. You can request changes at this stage at no cost.
Step 4: Approval and Deposit
When you are happy with the CAD, we provide a final quote and ask for a deposit to begin production. The quote is transparent — you know exactly what you are paying for.
Step 5: Hand-Craftsmanship
Your piece is made by hand in our Blantyre workshop. The metal is cast or fabricated, the stones are set, the piece is polished and finished. Depending on the complexity, this takes 3–6 weeks. You are welcome to visit during production to see the progress.
Step 6: Completion and Collection
When your piece is finished, you collect it from the atelier (or we ship it insured). You receive all certificates, a valuation for insurance, and our lifetime workmanship guarantee. The piece is yours — and only yours.
How Long Does Bespoke Take?
From first consultation to collection, most bespoke pieces take 4–6 weeks. Complex pieces with multiple stones or intricate detailing may take longer. Rush options are available — just ask.
How Much Does Bespoke Cost?
Bespoke is not necessarily more expensive than ready-to-wear. Because you are buying directly from the maker, there is no retail markup. We work with budgets from £1,500 to £50,000+. What matters is not the size of the budget but the thought behind the design.
